Last year, in our attempt to discover a new location for our annual active mini-break, we headed to the Pyrenees for a spot of camping. A fantastic location for outdoor sports, especially kayaking, canyoning and white water rafting. However, very annoyingly, we chose the only four days of rain, mist and chilly, chilly nights. The day we left, we were teased with the bright sunshine and warm days we had hoped for.
In hindsight, it may have been better to have ‘glamped’ it up a bit, especially end of season. If only we had discovered Belrepayre Airstream & Retro campsite, self declared as the only retro trailer park in Europe. Now this form of alternative camping could have brought some much needed comfort and excitement to our damp, drab days.
Their range of vintage caravans date back to the 50s – 70s and originate from the States. They have a story attached to each, creating that personal touch for your vintage vacation. Their decor does not defy their roots and the floral bedspreads and psychedelic prints and are apt. This will appeal to some people, and feel dated to others, but there lies the beauty in this retro campsite. Everyone who chooses it likes the same thing, which cannot be beaten when campsites are all about meeting other people. Vintage caravan owners, especially those with an airstream, are encouraged to visit the site and given a 10% discount. A great place to meet like-minded vintage enthusiasts, or simply alternative campers who are anything but main stream.
