Eat, Eat, Eat in Austria

Brezl Vienna

Vienna is a fantastic city for a weekend break.  Its extremely ‘walkable’ – we used public transport only twice in three days- to get us to and from the airport.  And all that walking will come in handy when you realise that one of the best things to do in Vienna is eat!

A few tips for great places we found:

V1no55- a lovely little wine bar which also does fondue (not the traditional cheesy gloop of the 70s, but lovely red or white wine with raw meat and vegetables to cook in it).  Note you have to book at least the day before if you want fondue as the make everything fresh on the day www.v1no55.com

Brezl Gwolb- a traditional Viennese restaurant, when we ate there it was full of Austrian people which I take as a good sign of its authenticity!  Close to the Judenplatz, tucked down a side street we felt like we’d really experienced some Viennese culture.  www.brezl.at

Cafe Central, a bit touristy, but amazing cakes and coffee or hot chocolate in a goregous setting.  This place really demonstrates Vienna’s commitment to cafe culture… http://www.palaisevents.at/cafecentral.html
